Detective Milton Arbogast was a private detective hired by Tom Cassidy to find Marion Crane after she absconded with $400,000.
Biography[]
After being hired, Arbogast approached Sam Loomis, believing him to be hiding Marion Crane at his house. After he asked questions for Loomis, he promised to contact Lila Crane once he uncovered new clues and left Chicago, Illinois. He eventually arrived Fairvale and the Bates Motel, where he interviewed Norman Bates.
While Norman said he did not know about Marion, Milton suspected he was hiding something. At night, he breached the motel to investigate further, only to be murdered by Norman, who is succumbing to his "mother" persona. His remains were hidden in the swamp near the motel, and eventually discovered by the authorities in the ensuing investigation and interred.
Trivia[]
The director Alfred Hitchcock hated the name Milton, so in the original he requested Martin to only using the Arbogast as his usual call, this seems not to be the case for the remake, as the character was allowed to say the name more freely.
