George Lowery was a real estate tycoon in Arizona. He had at least two women in his employ, one of whom was Marion Crane. He sold one of his houses to Tom Cassidy, who in turn was going to give the house to his daughter who just got married. Lowery felt ill at ease having a hunk of cash in his office, and ordered Marion to secure it. Later, when he is seen entering a night club with Cassidy, he is surprised to see Marion on the road, suggesting to him she did not deposit the money in the bank as she was told to do.
When Marion embezzles the $40,000, she imagines a conversation of Lowery speaking to Marion’s coworker, Tom Cassidy, (and possible authorities) when she fails to show up for work. Lowery is concerned and worried for Marion whereabouts as well the money, while Cassidy is outrage and concerned for the latter. Lowery is never mentioned again when Marion arrives at the Bates Motel.
