Fairvale is a small town located somewhere in Riverside County, California, somewhere near Palm Springs and the Joshua Tree National Park area as Marion Crane takes this route to visit Sam Loomis. When Interstate 10 was created in 1946, it did not follow the original highway, leaving the infamous Bates House and Motel out on Old Highway 10. Statler's Cafe is likely at the spot where the new interstate deviates from the original highway.
