Emma has cystic fibrosis. She lives with her dad above an antique shop that he runs. They migrated from Manchester, U.K. after her father quit his job as a professor to focus on taking care of her. Emma's life expectancy is 27 years, but she is currently on a waiting list for a lung transplant.
Season 1 Emma helps Norman Bates in First You Dream, Then You Die when she finds him vomiting at their school, and develops a crush on him.
In Nice Town You Picked, Norma..., Emma volunteers as Norman's partner for a presentation for Miss Watson's class.
In The Truth, Emma said that her mother has been gone for eight years.
