Al Chambers was the Sheriff of Shasta County responsible for the town of Fairvale when Norman Bates was arrested for the murder of Marion Crane.
He told Lila Crane and Sam Loomis the story of how Norma Bates died. Later, he was present when Dr. Fred Richman revealed the truth about Norman Bates' disjointed psyche and the murder of Norma.
Chambers and his wife attended the Fairvale Church.[1]
In the novel Sheriff Chambers' first name was Jud and he "was tall, broad across the shoulders and paunchily protruding at the waistline... He had curly graying hair and curly black eyebrows."
